Puppets and Playmaking.
The morning is spent desinging and making puppets and the afternoon is spent playing with the puppets in my large puppet theatre that I take and set upon the day. Puppets are fantastic for young children and aid in their confidence in performing in front of an audience. They work by themselves and in pairs or threes to tell stories and to make their puppets almost come alive. I bring everything required but the children may bring scissors, scrap paper and fabric if they wish. We look at several types of puppets from glove and sock puppets to stick and string puppets. The children have fun and can take home anything they make.
Cost: $40.00
Duration: 10am to 4pm usually.
Clown String Puppet.
Meet Booboo.

This puppet is made over two days and is recommended for children over ten years old. It involves basic needle and thread sewing but is very easy. The clothes are sewn by me once the child has chosen their fabrics from the selection provided. Although the same pattern is used for the face, body and the clothes, the puppets are identifiably individual due to the artistic choices made by the students. The clown string puppet is very easy to manouvre as I designed the string system myself.
After the first workshop for the puppets took place, more time has been allowed for the puppets to be completed. The puppets shown below haven't got their hands, arm strings or shoes attached.
Cost: $50.00 - all equipment is supplied.
Duration: Two days, normally 10am until 4pm (new time) including a lunch break.
Witch String Puppet.
This puppet takes longer to make than the clown as the face requires several hours of work. This would probably take two and a half days to make.

Other puppets.
Here are the puppets that were made by students in Crookwell. They can be adapted to any specifications. They are also inexpensive and most are quick to make.
The plays were:
Hansel and Gretel (A Hip Version),
The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig.
Goldilocks and the Three Bears,
The Three Billy Goats Gruff,
Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf.

These are all glove puppets. From left to right in the top line: Big Bad Wolf in Grandma's hat and glasses; the Big Bad Pig with a moveable mouth; Grandma. In the bottom line: Hansel and Gretel; One of the Little Wolves.

These are all stick puppets. The top three are fully operated with sticks while the bottom three have a glove into which you insert your hand and can then use. From left to right in the top line: One of the Billy Goats (before ears, horns and bell); Goldilocks; Red Riding Hood. From left to right in the bottom line: Troll; Witch; Hansel and Gretel's father.
This a the theatre that I designed and my father built for use with the puppets. This is now available to any of my students who wish to work with puppets. It can also be hired by schools if they wish to use it and the puppets that I have in my collection.

The three smaller pictures below show the three backdrops that were made for the theatre.
